A Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a servant leader and Agile Release Train (ART) coach who helps create and develop ART events and processes, supports teams in creating value, and ART-level events and Product Increment (PI) implementation.
They help remove obstacles, manage risks and ensure value creation and continuous improvement. RTEs are often involved in Lean-Agile transformations, coaching leaders, teams and Scrum Master / Team Coaches to make new mindsets and processes easier to negotiate.
In addition, the RTEs help to adapt the SAFe framework to the needs of the organisation and standardise and document good practices.

Prerequisites, information
The training has no formal prerequisites, but is considered advanced training, so we recommend completing one of the basic SAFe courses. Participants can best benefit from the training if they are confident in at least the following topics:
- Agile and Lean approaches
- Scrum framework
- SAFe Essential configuration
- SAFe roles and responsibilities
- Steps in the design process in the SAFe framework
In the absence of this, we recommend either completing our Agile entry-level training before completing the training and/or Leading SAFe or the SAFe Scrum Master one of the following courses.
Participants in the training will learn the typical points of events through playful simulation exercises. The theoretical part will be complemented by group exercises and case discussions to facilitate the learning process. The course will prepare you to obtain the SAFe Release Train Engineer certification.
The training fee includes a one-off examination fee to obtain the SAFe® RTE qualification. The exam is in English, online, multiple-choice.
What is included in the training?
- Training material in digital format
- SAFe® virtual classroom access
- SAFe® Collaborate - access to the collaboration platform
